What Happened in 2019
Over the May Day bank holiday weekend this year (4th-6th May 2019), volunteers from churches across the city joined together to host a weekend of free community events and share their skills to tackle practical projects in communities across the city. Our vision is to ‘show God’s love in practical ways' and be part of ‘building Bristol as a city of hope’.
At a quick glance, we had over 900 volunteers from 57 churches and groups across Bristol:
Teams of volunteers hosted:
- 10 family fun afternoons, 6 with BBQs and 1 with a bake-off!
- a community games afternoon
- 3 cream teas and 1 banquet for senior citizens
- 2 sports events for young people
- a community car wash
Volunteers also completed around 80 different practical community projects within homes, in public spaces and a community centres or schools. These included:
Renovation and general maintenance inside and outside school buildings
Projects in sheltered housing accommodation and community centres
Work in individual gardens
General tidy up and cutting back of overgrown public spaces
Rubbish and litter clearance
and much, much more…
All projects are referred to us by those working within the local community with the aim to have an immediate and long term impact.
And, everything was FREE!
