Community Treasure Hunt

Idea

Creating a treasure hunt trail around your community is a simple, fun way to invite young people in teams or families to get active, have fun and go to some places they perhaps don’t know. You can do this in several ways, such as by creating quiz questions to answer e.g. how many lampposts are between the school and Serbert Road. You could also ask shops/community rooms to hide things in their window along the route, e.g. letters that spell out a secret word.

What works very well is to challenge participants to take fun photos of themselves at certain destinations, e.g. making a star outside The Star Inn, a selfie with a grannie. These can then either be uploaded/linked to a webpage, or simply shown to someone at the end.

Be aware of the safety of participants – avoid no-go areas, advocate safe crossings on busy roads. With younger groups, you may wish to send an adult/pair of adults to act as ‘guides’ with each group, or post people around the route to help anyone looking lost!
