The Vision

For 11th consecutive year, local churches will be involved in running a huge event in North Bristol called 'The Noise'. It happens on the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 5th – Monday 7th May) across the communities of Horfield, Lawrence Weston, Little Stoke, Lockleaze, Manor Farm, Southmead, Sea Mills and Upper Horfield.

In an exciting new development, The Noise 2012 will be moving into Barton Hill, East Bristol. The vision for The Noise has always been for the whole of the city of Bristol, but at the same time to grow in a slow and natural way. This year links with local churches, and relationships with groups and individuals living and working within Barton Hill, have made this move and growth possible. The potential and possibilities this opens up are huge!

There will be around 800 volunteers working on a range of Community Transformation Projects across these communities in a high profile event demonstrating God's love in very practical ways. In addition to these projects, we hope to make this a weekend to remember with lots going on that can be enjoyed by everyone in the community from all generations and backgrounds. Currently planned are 8 different Family Fun Afternoons, Community BBQ’s, Senior Citizens Banquets in Horfield, Southmead and Sea Mills, Sports coaching and tournaments across the area, as well as other activities for young people, a lot of car washing, and much more…

Esther Legg-Bagg, Project Co-ordinator for The Noise 2012, comments 'The Noise is takes place on a Bank Holiday weekend in May, but it demonstrates what the church is about, and what it is doing all year round. It is a great time to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds in the community. It’s about working with the local community on projects that are sustainable and have a long term benefit. The Noise encourages a positive sense of community spirit as people come together to enjoy everything on offer, all of which are completely FREE!’

The Noise places a very high value on sustainable initiatives that will have a long term impact and presence in the local community. The events of The Noise weekend are a high profile part of the local churches' work, but this work does not end when the weekend ends. Many of the projects and links continue throughout the year, such as kids clubs, sports activities, events for senior citizens, as well work with local schools. Noise co-ordinators partner with locally based organisations and workers to identify and meet the needs of an area, therefore maximising the impact and worth of The Noise weekend.
