The Communities
‘The Noise’ is in its 11th year working in communities across North Bristol. This year sees a continuing partnership with churches and groups/individuals working in this area, but also a move into East Bristol, specifically Barton Hill.
Here is a little bit of information about the communities The Noise 2012 will be working in, as well as the churches that are based locally.
Barton Hill
Barton Hill is an area of Bristol, just to the east of the city centre and Bristol Temple Meads railway station. It includes residential, retail and industrial premises and is crossed by major roads, railway tracks and the feeder canal leading to Bristol Harbour.
Lawrence Weston
Lawrence Weston is a post war housing estate in north west Bristol between Henbury and Shirehampton. The estate is bounded in the east by the Blaise Castle estate and woods. It was transformed in the late 1940s and early 1950s, when the estate was built, absorbing both the original hamlet and the neighbouring hamlet of Kings Weston. Originally council owned, much of the housing stock is now in private hands. It is known as "El Dub" or "L' Dub" to its inhabitants.
Little Stoke
Little Stoke is a suburb of north Bristol, situated in South Gloucestershire, England. Surrounded by Patchway, Stoke Gifford and Bradley Stoke, Little Stoke, in the middle, is often forgotten. Home to Patchway railway station, a minor stop on the railway network, the railway line also separates Little Stoke from the large Rolls Royce factories in nearby Filton.
Little Stoke is also home to a large playing field and a community centre. Near the railway arch are some local shops including a Post Office. The area originally consisted of many council houses and post WWII prefabs.
Lockleaze
Lockleaze is an area in the northern suburbs of Bristol, three miles north of the city centre, south of Filton, east of Horfield and west of Frenchay. Lockleaze is a long narrow residential area built on the western flank of Purdown, separated from Horfield by the main Bristol to South Wales railway line.
Horfield
Horfield lies on Bristol's northern edge, its border with Filton marking part of the boundary between Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Bishopston lies directly to the south. Monks Park and Golden Hill are to the west. Lockleaze and Ashley Down are on the eastern fringe. The Gloucester Road (A38) runs north/south through the suburb.
Manor Farm
Manor Farm is a community behind the territorial army building on Horfield Common with mixture of private and council housing. This area is often felt by residents as forgotten, there has been alot of campaigning over recent years for a community building.
Sea Mills
Sea Mills is situated some 3.5 miles (6 km) north-west of the city centre, towards the seaward end of the Avon Gorge. Nearby suburbs are Shirehampton, Sneyd Park, Combe Dingle and Stoke Bishop. Sea Mills forms part of the city ward of Kingsweston.
Southmead
Southmead is a northern suburb of Bristol. The town of Filton (in South Gloucestershire), and the Bristol suburb of Horfield lie on its boundaries.
Upper Horfield
Upper Horfield is an area that has seen massive regeneration over recent years. It is sandwiched between Horfield and Filton and is a community made up of private and social housing.
